Tonia Relkov is an artist, writer, and psychologist who has studied at a number of institutions including NSCAD, UBC, and the Academy of Realist Art.
She works in a variety of mediums including acrylic and oil paint, charcoal drawing, and ceramic sculpture. Currently working mainly in non-representational styles, Tonia’s subject matter is the connection between an individual and their body, specifically trying to unfold through artistic exploration the understanding that we as humans have of our internal states. Transitory psychological states such as moods and emotions, or physiological needs such as hunger or thirst, are experienced through a complex set of interactions among components of the brain and body. Through art it is possible to listen in to this pattern of communication and represent the intra-personal experience of being.
