Susann Laverie, of Susann Laverie Fine Art, is an American artist who creates original, one-of-a-kind custom paintings on canvas primarily in acrylics and mixed media. Susann graduated from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (NSCAD) in 1975 and worked as an artist for many years until taking care of her children and a calling to work in the healing arts led her to become a natural health practitioner and a homeopath.
Additionally, she has been deeply involved in animal rescue and networking animals in need online. In recent years she experienced a stroke and then in late 2022 she survived 5 heart attacks in a row. As a result, she chose to listen more closely to her body and soul and left these pursuits behind, returning to her first love of painting. She has since spent all of her time painting once again and listening to the soft whispers of spirit to guide her in her work as an artist.
Susann not only paints on canvas but also on ethically sourced oyster shells that have been collected by hand from the beach after the oysters no longer have use of them. Each shell is thoroughly cleaned and sanitized before painting. Each piece is painstakingly painted by hand in acrylic paint and other mixed media using very small brushes and tools. Her paintings are inspired by a love of antique jewelry, nature and the art & design of the Belle Epoch and Art Nouveau periods.
She specializes in fluid art and pour painting, which she has been doing for over 50 years. Additionally, she enjoys painting animal portraits including beloved pets, animals in the wild and farm animals.
She welcomes inquiries and is available for commissions.
